Farewell to Carolina Water Cooler
On June 9, 2006, a website was born. Just over four years later, that same website met its demise. That website is this website. Rather than just up and disappear like a fart in the wind, as businesses and websites do from time to time (looking at you, pets.com), we'd like to explain to all of our valued readers the cause of this shocking news...
Back in 2006, Stillman and Dave were just a couple of carefree recent college grads with nothing but time on their hands. The allure of the big time money to be made through advertising revenue on a hilarious website was just too much to pass up (speaking of, a big thanks to State Farm Agent Matt Phillips and Margaret's Cantina for all their support through the years). But the times, they have a-changed.
With the recent birth of Clayton Isaac, Dave's duties as a new father and Stillman's duties as an adopted uncle have really eaten into a lot of their free time. Not to mention that after almost half a decade of sports coverage, we're running out of fresh material. Inserting "dadgum" every three words in a Roy Williams themed article is only funny so many times...and whatever number of times that is, we've far exceeded it.
So it's time to pass the torch. According to our sophisticated tracking software (read: free software we found online), there are thousands of you readers out there. Surely one or two of you have the desire to keep this fine establishment running. So from now until July 31, 2010, this website is up for auction. See the sidebar on the right for more details.
Don't worry, we won't fall off the map completely. Both of us will be keeping the Twitter accounts you see on the left active. Which means you can still come to this page and read some of our most recent witty one-liners any time you're pining for the good ol' days when this site was still alive and well.
The decision to shut down the site wasn't easy. After all, we've covered Carolina athletics during the highest of highs (the 2009 National Championship) and the lowest of lows (the John Bunting Era). But after much deliberation, pulling the plug was the most respectable course of action. Better to go out on top than to watch one of the world wide web's greatest masterpieces die a slow and painful death.
We appreciate all the support (and hate mail) we've gotten over the past four years and hope that you'll be able to continue to root on the University of North Carolina without this site to fall back on during the tough times. Thanks for the memories.
Sincerely,
Dave & Stillman
